Question:
Where can I find information about transit industry standards?
Answer:
While the Federal Transit Administration does not directly mandate industry standards (such as standards concerning procurement or fare collection, for instance), FTA does sponsor the development and dissemination of consensus-based specifications through the support of the APTA Standards program. The APTA Standards program brings together industry volunteers serving on working committees to develop consensus standards for bus, rail transit and commuter rail operations, maintenance, procurement, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and other subject areas. The APTA Standards program website (http://www.aptastandards.com) provides further information on ongoing and completed standards efforts, as well as contact information for the different standards workgroups.
