About Innovative Practices

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) recognizes that the benefits of transit depend on riders. Thus, one key measure of success is in the percentage increase of transit ridership (boardings) over the previous year. Across the U.S., many transit agencies have implemented innovative practices that have increased ridership. However, there has not been a central repository of information from which transit managers can learn about these success stories.

To help fill this void, FTA has launched the Innovative Practices for Increased Ridership application to serve as the central information repository and dissemination resource on innovative strategies that transit systems have utilized to increase ridership. Although this site will be open to the general public, it is intended for use primarily by transit organizations.

The goal is to assist transit organizations in increasing ridership by collecting information from transit agencies that were able to achieve such increases through innovative practices. This medium allows organizations to learn from actual experiences that have worked. Users may include state Departments of Transportation (DOTs), Municipal Planning Organizations, Academic and Research Institutions, Special Service Companies and the US taxpayer. Sharing this information brings exposure to special programs and benefits the collective community.

If you have a innovative practice you would like to share, please Submit New.

This innovative practice information will be reviewed by FTA and will then be made available for other transit organizations to Search Records, review innovations, and potentially implement similar programs.
